At Bellissima Exclusive we believe that helping people to enjoy renewed self-confidence in social situations is one of the most satisfying aspects of our work. A client once confided that she used to try to hide her mouth with her hand when laughing or smiling. After her successful treatment here in Leeds she described her experience as “life changing”.
How Gummy Smile Correction works here at our Leeds Facial Aesthetics Clinic
Showing excessive upper gum on smiling is due to increased tension in specific muscles at the sides of the nose. Carefully injection with botulinum toxin type A relaxes these muscles and lowers the upper lip, covering the gum. On smiling, a very natural look is achieved – please see the photographs below, which show how effective this can be. They were taken before and then two weeks after treatment.
What happens after Gummy Smile Reduction Treatment
The treatment doesn’t take immediate effect. As with any botulinum toxin type A treatment, the full benefits can take up to 14 days to become apparent. At two weeks, you would return to us for a review appointment, where photographs would be taken, and additional fine tuning injections administered free of charge if required, to achieve the desired effect.
The treatment remains effective for approximately six months.
Making sure that the treatment is suitable
Correction of a gummy smile is an advanced aesthetic treatment and should only be performed by a qualified health professional with advanced aesthetic training. Accurate injection technique is key to avoiding potential complications which could affect muscle movement of the mouth.
Because gummy smile correction uses botulinum toxin type A, it is not suitable for anyone who is pregnant, breast feeding, has an infection at the proposed injection site, has a known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in botulinum toxin type A, suffers from generalised disorders of muscle activity (e.g. myasthenia gravis) or who is taking certain medication that interferes with neuromuscular transmission or blood clotting.
To find out more about gummy smile correction and to discuss medical suitability, please book a free consultation with Caroline Mertens, our Aesthetics Nurse Practitioner.
