Red, broken veins are a commonly encountered problem. They can have a number of causes, from sun damage and the environment to hormonal changes, or using too harsh products on the skin. They can also be an inherited condition.

Fortunately, Bellissima Exclusive can treat red veins through a choice of two highly effective techniques – IPL red vein removal or treatment using electrolysis.  One of our skin specialists can advise you which treatment would be most appropriate to remove your broken veins.

Laser Red Vein Removal – fast and easy treatment

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) can give a long term solution to red veins in just a few fast and easy treatments.  The intense pulsed light is absorbed by blood vessels, heating them to a point where they are destroyed. After the treatment the vessels quickly clear as they are re-absorbed by the body’s own drainage system, leaving little or no trace of the broken veins.

The treatment is effective for a variety of blood vessel-related conditions and treats facial thread veins, rosacea, spider veins and even port wine stains.

Before and after your Red Vein removal treatment

Before we proceed, you’ll receive a free consultation at our Guiseley salon, during which patch tests will take place to make sure you’re suitable for treatment. We’ll also check your medical history so we can advise you further.

How IPL Red Vein removal works

Your therapist here at Bellissima Exclusive will begin by applying a smooth gel to the area to be treated. The IPL applicator is then placed on the skin and short pulses of light are released. The applicator is moved slightly and the whole of the affected area is treated. Typically, this takes just 15 to 30 minutes, depending on how many veins are to be treated. Most clients describe the treatment as mildly uncomfortable, but not painful – you may feel a slight stinging sensation as the pulses of light are delivered, but this soon goes away.

3 to 5 treatments are usually needed to produce the best possible results, although small red veins may be cleared in just a single session. You’ll need to leave 4 to 6 weeks between treatments. Most clients see changes after only one session.

After your IPL Red Vein removal

There may be some redness and swelling after the treatment. We’d advise you to cool the area, avoid going to the gym and refrain from hot baths or showers as well as any form of heat treatment. Make-up can be applied directly following a face treatment and you can return to your normal skincare routine straight after each treatment session.

You must use a factor 30 SPF following your treatment and continuously afterwards to prevent the veins coming back. Aftercare advice will be given.

It normally takes about three weeks for fading to begin and the finer broken veins will tend to disappear. It is, however, extremely important for you to continue with your treatment until the broken veins have completely faded to achieve the best results.

Treating broken veins with Electrolysis Red Vein Removal

This treatment option involves the application of a small electrolysis current to the skin surface. Your Bellissima Exclusive therapist will do this by tapping a very fine needle along the affected area. The blood vessel is cauterised and destroyed by heat. The best results are usually seen on nose and cheek area.

The treatment takes approximately 30 minutes depending on the size of the area. Most clients describe it as mildly uncomfortable, with a slight stinging sensation often noticeable in the area being treated.

The skin is blanched and the red colour disappears, the blood being reabsorbed by the body. The area may feel a warm for a short period following treatment. Over the following 7-10 days small crusts may appear on the area treated, often described as looking like a cat scratch.

Most red skin lesions can be successfully treated – including facial red veins, rosacea and spider naevi – leaving the skin smooth and blemish-free.  We offer a free consultation prior to your appointment to check suitability. Treatment can be carried out on the same day.

Making sure your Electrolysis treatment works to its best effect

Typically, up to 3 treatments may be required to clear facial veins but after one treatment there will be a noticeable difference. The treatments should be done at 4 week intervals.

Most clients see changes after only one session. Normally about three weeks after the treatment fading begins to occur and the finer broken veins will tend to disappear. It is, however, extremely important for you to continue with your treatment until the broken veins have completely faded to achieve the best results.

After your treatment we recommend that you avoid using skincare products and make-up on the area. You should also avoid going to the gym, taking hot baths or showers, and refrain from any other heat treatments for 24 hours.  You must use a factor 30 SPF continuously after your treatment to prevent veins reappearing.
