At Bellissima’s Facial Aesthetics Clinic we only use top quality pharmaceuticals, which have been subject to rigorous clinical trials for safety and effectiveness. All medical treatments carry an element of risk and we’ll always make sure that an accurate medical history is taken to identify any reasons why a client may not be suitable for treatment. Botox®, or other muscle relaxing injections, should only be prescribed and administered by a health professional who has undertaken relevant aesthetic training and who is full insured. Medical research has demonstrate Botox® and other muscle relaxing injections to be safe and effective in treating lines and wrinkles caused by muscle movement, (Brin MF, Boodho TI, Pogoda JM et al 2009). It is important to feel comfortable in your choice of practitioner – your consultation will provide the ideal opportunity to ask questions about the treatment, about the qualifications and experience of the practitioner and to discuss any concerns. At Bellissima we strongly feel that consultations should never involve pressurised sales techniques. We’d also advise you that offers which seem too good to be true often are just that! Be wary of promotional Botox® offers.
We can offer a very broad range of treatments all backed by clinical research at our salon in Guiseley. We’ll be happy to discuss which are suitable for combination treatments when you call us to book a free consultation. Clinical research has demonstrated that treatment with Botox® and other muscle relaxing injections prior to dermal fillers or skin resurfacing techniques (e.g. IPL – intense pulsed light) improves the overall outcome (Carruthers A, Carruthers J, Monheit GD et al 2010, Hedelund L, Due E, Bjerring P et al 2006). Using advanced techniques, Botox® can be used to reduce facial expression line movement, preventing further “pinching” of the skin which has been treated with either hyaluronic acid dermal fillers or skin resurfacing therapies. This rests the skin and allows optimum recovery and natural collagen repair. To discuss the implications of combination treatments, and recommended treatment protocols, please book a free consultation with our aesthetic Nurse Practitioner, Caroline Mertens.
If you are receiving treatment for a medical condition it is important to discuss the implications during the aesthetic consultation. In some cases it may be necessary to seek permission from your consultant prior to treatment. There are certain medical conditions and medications which are not compatible with some aesthetic treatments; however there may be other safe options available. For specific advice, please book a consultation with our nurse practitioner.
There is no research evidence of adverse outcomes due to air travel after having Botox® and other muscle relaxing injections. You should, however, always follow our aftercare advice which is to avoid lying down, bending down, heavy lifting and exercise for at least four hours to prevent the toxin dispersing from the injection sites. A comprehensive aftercare information sheet with a contact telephone number is provided.
We’ll do our best to make sure it doesn’t! Pain perception is very individual – but here at the Facial Aesthetics Clinic we try to make treatments as comfortable as possible, by offering local anaesthetic cream to numb the surface of the skin or, for lip treatments, a dental block (local anaesthetic injections to numb the lips). Some of the pharmaceutical products also contain small amounts of local anaesthetic.
Many people have seen negative stories in the media regarding dermal fillers. In fact, some of the issues reported concern permanent fillers, rather than the latest hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. Hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the skin. Unfortunately as we age, the quality and quantity of natural hyaluronic acid diminishes. Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers help restore suppleness, elasticity and tone to the skin and can be used for correcting lines and wrinkles and restoring facial contours. They are broken down naturally by the body over a 6-12 month period, depending on the type of filler and area treated. At our Facial Aesthetics Clinic here in Leeds, we specialise in helping clients achieve a safe, natural, refreshed look. Most of our clients want to look good for their age, not like someone completely different. To achieve this, Caroline will devise an individual treatment plan tailored to each client's specific requirements. She will also advise when treatment is not appropriate.
