Five Skin Trends to Avoid

With social media heavily influencing today’s modern world. It’s hard to filter the facts from the fiction. With influencers claiming to be skin experts from their bedrooms, advertising products via paid promotions, it can all get a little confusing. So we are here to squash those skin trends that just don’t work…

Number 1:

Slugging With Vaseline

If you have a TikTok account, you likely couldn’t go without seeing mentions of slugging with Vaseline. Applying a thick layer of Vaseline to hydrate dry skin.

Occlusive products like Vaseline trap natural oils, sweat, and possibly bacteria in the pores. When oils, sebum, dirt and bacteria get trapped, it can lead to breakouts and clogged pores.

Use a cosmeceutical Moisturiser and Hyaluronic Acid Serum to increase hydration in your skin. We recommend Skin Serious Balance + Serum and Reverse Moisturiser.

Number 2:

DIY Micro-Needling

Often lacing the shelves of

Tk Maxx, at home Micro-needling Devices. Don’t be tempted to save costs and treat yourself at home. Using these devices put you at risk of causing damage and infection by using too much pressure, not using a quality device and not being sterile. At-home micro-needling can result in “contact dermatitis, skin blotchiness and the spreading of skin viruses when not done correctly.

Number 3:

Using Sunbeds To Stop You From Burning

We often hear ‘I have a few sunbeds before going on holiday to stop me from burning’.

When you use a sunbed there is no evidence to show it strengthens your epidermis to give you protection against burning. Instead, every time you use a sunbed you are increasing your risk of skin cancer by twenty percent. To prevent yourself from burning, wear a high factor of sun protection when exposed to the sun. Your body will produce its own natural defence whilst you avoid artificial UV waves from the sunbeds which are proven to be much stronger than midday sun.

Number 4:

Having Aesthetic Treatments with a Non-Medical Professional

When having Botox or Fillers you are having a muscle paralysis/ toxin injected into your skin. This naturally comes with risk. When having your Aesthetic Treatment performed by a Medical professional, they have extensive knowledge of the blood capillary network, muscles and facial anatomy allowing them to deliver the treatment without an adverse reaction. Those who are not medically trained often partake in a two-day course and are then ‘let loose’ to inject your face. If you were to have a medical reaction, they simply would not have the knowledge to reverse the reaction or treatment. If a reaction is not treated in time it can lead to serious tissue damage. The knowledge comes from years of training within the medical field.

Number 5:

Only Using Sun Protection When It’s Sunny

The rule of thumb is if you can read a line of a book in the light you are in, be that broad daylight, sat at your kitchen table in the late afternoon or sat in the car waiting for the school pick up the sun can get into your skin and cause damage.

In most lights, you can read a line of a book. So when it’s windy, dull, raining or snowing, you need to wear SPF.
